Onepoto Basin
Last week while the car went in for a warrant and service Cole and I walked to Onepoto Basin (about 20-25 min walk downhill). We go there often as there are two playgrounds, a duck pond, and a bike track.
Cole blew me away with hoe much his confidence has grown riding his bike. He can even use the breaks pretty well now. He still needs to work on looking forwards while he's riding though, instead of trying to see what's happening behind him!
We had a picnic lunch and were joined by a family of pukekos - poo-keck-ohs, for our foreign readers ;) It didn't take long for the seagulls and pigeons to join them, but funnily enough, there seemed to be a shortage of ducks - and since we were at a duck pond that was quite odd.
After about 40 mins we began the ascent back to the auto shop. I'm not sure what I had been thinking walking down to the basin, but I obviously had given no thought as to how we were going to be getting back since Cole requires constant pushing to get up even small hills on his bike. At the top of the hill, sweaty and breathless (dressed in jeans no less!!) we discovered the car was not ready becasue it needed two new rear tyres. So struggling on a little bit further we rounded the corner to the Slipp Inn pub for a drink and some hot chips.
Finally when the car was ready we made it home in time to collapse on the couch for a rest before the dinner rush!
